Gwen Nell Westerman’s roots are deep in the landscape of the tall grass prairie, and reveal themselves in her research, art, and writing through the languages and traditions of her family, including Dakota and English. She has contributed to the design and development of exhibit text at the Pipestone National Monument, the Minneopa State Park Bison Project, Itasca State Park, and the Spring Lake Bison Project. A fiber artist and poet, her poems are included in the permanent exhibit “Native Truths: Our Voices, Our Stories” at the Field Museum in Chicago. She is a professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
