Vice President/Design Director
Smithgroup
Chevy Chase, Maryland
As Vice President and Design Director for Smithgroup, Dayton brings 20 years of experience championing ‘Design Justice’ advocacy. One of his most notable projects is the Richmond National Slavery Museum at the Lumpkin’s Slave Jail Site. "It is undoubtedly one of the most humbling and important projects I’ve worked on in my career," Dayton remarks. "A project with this much emotion and historical complexity really highlights the importance of active listening, truth-telling and story-telling in shaping the spatial experiences that empower communities”. He also serves as a leader for the firm’s Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
