MON-A05: Developing Leadership, Advocacy, and Resiliency Among Emerging Professionals

These are unprecedented times, especially for emerging professionals who have the majority of their career still ahead of them. This session will highlight the many ways to build self-empowerment so that meaningful connections can be made, serious challenges can be confronted, and fulfilling careers can be achieved.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand why diversity in expressions of leadership is valid and critical for promoting the profession of landscape architecture.
  • Examine the need for advocacy on the part of every practitioner, regardless of their identity, and discuss a spectrum of advocacy methods that promote a culture of inclusion and collaboration.
  • Identify tools for emerging professionals that help deal with confronting disillusionment, imposter syndrome, and harmful workplace stigmas.
  • Acknowledge the lessons from contemporary social movements, and visualize how future landscape architects can leverage DEI principles.
