MON-A06: Longwood Outside—Urban Activation and Placemaking at a Medical District

This session promotes well-being of healthcare workers and patients through showcasing a successful community placemaking initiative at an urban medical district. The client team will collaborate with the urban design consultant to share the vision and process, opportunities and challenges in creating urban respites in a stressful working environment.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Recognize unique challenges faced by medical workers and patients, and the importance of providing meaningful outdoor spaces to promote health and wellness.
  • Learn from a methodological observation and evaluation process of urban spaces.
  • Understand the methods and benefits of fostering community, promoting wellness, and creating a unique neighborhood identity.
  • Explore opportunities to sustain the long-term success of connected, vibrant public spaces for health workers, patients, and other visitors to the medical district.
